Dark and Silent

Davao is one of the Christian-dominated cities in Mindanao. Traditions that were established since the Spanish colonization like the observance of All Souls’ Day are being religiously practiced by most of the residents. Thousands mill around cemeteries to pay tribute to their departed loved ones. On daytime, people have to elbow through the noisy crowd and persistent peddlers and endure the glaring sun. As the sun sets, silence blankets the cemetery. Visible through the faint glow of candles, families can be seen bowing down their heads in reverence. During the night in the land of the dead it is dark and silent.
